Can the ps slim or the new GB playstation use controllers to play even though it only has ports?

Can the ps slim or the new GB playstation use controllers to play even though it only has ports?
Can I have controllers and play player games but both of the ones above only have usb ports. so does that mean only controllers can be used? but the ps controllers have light things that tell you which player you are. so im confused. is it controller or controller maximum? thanks

Thats not how controllers get hooked up. The USB ports are for charging the controller, putting in a USB flash drive, putting in a USB wiredwireless controller, keyboard, and many other uses. Controllers are hooked up wirelessly to the Bluetooh receiver inside the PS. You just need the USB cable to sync it.
